I'm That Friend ..

This is for the foodies

I’m that friend that will dance , shimmy and sing when the food is hitting just right.

I’m that friend that will take time to take photos of my meals.

I ‘m that friend that will have photo albums dedicated to food.

I’m that friend that is not afraid to try new foods and flavors.

I’m that friend that will ask you if you’ve eaten as a form of love.

I’m that friend that can be transported back in time by certain food scents.

I’m that friend that will tell you if you don’t like food at all …. Can we even be friends?

I’m that friend that can both take my time to savor a meal or devour it within minutes.

I’m that friend that has food as a love language, buy me food, bring me food, make me food or be food.

I’m that friend that reminds you that the way to this woman’s heart can be through her stomach.

I’m that friend that travels and asks the locals what they like to eat.

I’m that friend that likes to bake and host others.

I’m that friend who loves the connection, community and comfort of food.

I’m that friend …

Food is a love language and a Spiritual Practice

Food Nourishes …. It’s A Gift.

One of the most nurturing gifts you can offer someone is food.  It can be as simple as a pack of cookies, piece of fruit or warm chicken tortilla soup to help heal a cold.  Giving someone food is giving them life.  When you take the time to purchase, prepare and present food, it already shows that you have put time and effort into the gift you offer. Food literally nurtures and keeps you alive.  Giving it is a form of love. I’m that friend.

Food Creates Connection
One of the elements that I love about food is having someone to share in the joy.  Sharing time together over a meal strengthens relationships, offers conversation and builds memories. Sometimes it’s eating in silence with someone because you both are in your own worlds doing the foodie shimmy, shake and song. I’m definitely that friend.

Food Is Storytelling

One of my favorite memories of family holidays and gatherings was the stories about the recipes and foods.  I smell barbecue and I am transported back to summers in Brenham, TX with my maternal grandparents. I would wake up to the smell of my Big Daddy barbecuing sausages, ribs and chicken early in the morning.  I smell pastries and I think about my Mama who still bakes so that the house would have the aroma of fresh baking. (The house is on the corner, so it was hilarious to see people walking by and saying . “Do you smell cake?”) I love sitting with people as they prepare food, share what they are doing and the traditions along with it.

I’ve spent more time exploring recipes and cooking. It’s been a way of helping me to rest and reset.  It’s also been a tangible way of sharing love.  I have a peach dessert that is fire and I’ve got receipts.  Food is nourishing, Food creates community and Food tells a story.

Food is a love language and a spiritual practice for me.
