The Cloud

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of [a]witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness] …” Hebrews 12:1

One of my most treasured travel mementos is a Sankofa Statue that I purchased in Ghana. It is a bird with its head turned backwards while its feet face forward carrying a precious egg in its mouth. The word Sankofa comes from the Akan people of Ghana. It is an Akan term that literally means, “to go back and get it.” The spirit of Sankofa encompasses taking from the past what is good and bringing it into the present to make progress in the future.

I am thankful for the wisdom that they gave me

Grateful for the ways that they paved for me

I honor them when I embody the best of their traits

I will not make in vain their prayers of faith

I will remember their stories and to retell them

Their legacies live on each time I share them

I am reminded that I am the result of an answered prayer

And they remind that their spirit pushes me on and they are always there

There’s power in the presence

There is power in their presence

There is power in their presence

Grateful for the Cloud
