THANKS FOR THAT THING YOU DID

“Thank you is best prayer that anyone could say. I say that one a lot. Thank you expresses extreme gratitude, humility nod understanding. “.Alice Walker

“ As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”[b] And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done“ Luke 17: 11-14

Thank you for that thing you did.

I am currently in transition. In the midst of finishing assignments, there was a card on my desk. It was postmarked from out of the country. I couldn’t think of anyone that I knew that was living in this particular place. But my friends travel, so I wasn’t surprised, I was captured by the cover - Thank You For That Thing You Did.

The sender was someone I met over a decade ago. I facilitated a gathering of women from different generations, cultures and places for a conversation. It was a sacred moment for all of us, and as soon as I saw her name, the memories flooded back as I thought of all of the beautiful and brilliant sisters who participated in this anointed gathering. We prayed, lifted each other up, listened to each other and spoke the truth in love, I have seen gifts and talents emerge in all of us over the decade. She talked about how that moment impacted her life’s direction and ministry. She had been wanting to thank me, but was taking the time to do it now. I was beyond grateful because the delay in her mind set up the perfect arrival day for mine. She poured prayers and affirmations in my life the moment that I didn’t even realized that I needed it.

It’s never too late to say Thank You. I love how the leper took time to go back and thank Jesus for the healing. The thank you is always a blessing.

Take the time to say thank you to someone today.

Maybe it’s a sermon they preached years ago that shifted the trajectory of your life.

Maybe it was the five extra minutes they took to listen to you during a difficult time.

Maybe it was when they had you laughing so hard you cried.

Maybe it was a meal they prepared for you. Maybe it was the gift of presence.

Maybe it was something that they weren’t even aware that they did.

In your mind, it may be a delay, but for them it may be a divine gift that arrives on the perfect day.

Thank Them For That Thing They Did or Thank Them For That Thing They Didn’t Even Know That They Did.

But either way, Thank God and thank them.

Thank You,

Sheila P Spencer
