“A happy heart is good medicine..” Proverbs 17:22
“I just want to make people laugh.” Sinbad
"I think that laughter bonds people in a way that sometimes serious conversations can't." - Issa Rae
Laughter was my portion this past week. I attended a Comedy Show benefit for Sinbad who is recovering from a 2020 stroke. There was a line up of amazing comedians and music by Dougie Fresh. My friend and I spent the evening dancing and doubling over in laughter. Comedians showed up to support him and performed back to back and gave us no mercy. From Chris Tucker to DL Hughley to Mark Curry and Deon Cole to Kim Coles, they reminded us about the power of laughter and the power that Sinbad had on all of us.
In a world filled with reasons to dampen our spirits, laughter is not an escape, but a remedy for our collective wounds. It does not seek to erase the realities of our struggles; rather, it serves as a transformative force, offering solace and renewal in the face of adversity. Comedians, often drawing from their own experiences of pain, illuminate this truth, infusing their humor with the raw authenticity of lived experience.
Laughter, in its essence, is a revolutionary act of self-care and resistance, a reminder that even in the bleakest of circumstances, joy and healing are within our grasp, if only we have the courage to embrace them.
