Savor Your Flavor

Food is my love language … plain and simple.

Food is my love language. Plain and simple. If you have interacted with me in person for a period of time, you know this to be true. The smell of a freshly baked cakes evokes memories of my Mom making a cake early in the morning, so the house could smell good. Summers in Texas with my grandfather barbecuing outside for the all of the visiting family. One of the best treats of traveling is exploring new foods and flavors. If you love me, buy me food, make me food or be food. It is all the things. I am a certified foodie. One of the traits I enjoy most about food are the unique flavors. There is a very important and necessary component to all great dishes.

This classic video from Oprah clearly shows what component that is. Her expression in this clip is priceless.

In the words of my friend, Candace, there is no place for bland seasoning.

I think about the Matthew passage that reminds us that we are the salt of the earth. We’re called to add flavor to the world with our uniqueness and gifts. The beautiful thing is that we all have our own flavor.

I love Creole food, During a recent visit to Atlanta, I went to a favorite Creole spot. The jambalaya and the gumbo is everything. The time that it takes to prepare the seasoning and the richness of the roux makes each serving special. During a workshop on Hearing God’s Voice, the workshop leader reminded us about the importance of embracing our authenticity and genuine selves. She compared it to the roux.

The authentic and the genuine in you is the roux.

That shifted something within. Embrace your authenticity, your genuine self, your quirks, your gifts and your flavor,

Savor Your Flavor,
